You're going to work in teams of 3 to 4 people for 3 weeks on this project. You'll need to organize between yourselves who's responsible for what and how it's all going to come together at the end!

By the end of the project, you'll have a polished project to add to your portfolio, as well as all the experience building it to discuss in future job interviews and opportunities. Not only will you improve your technical skills, but you'll learn how to collaborate in teams, communicate changes and updates, and how to integrate everyone's work together for the final deadline.

During the project, you must use at least 1 sponsor technology in your project. Below are the options:

  • DFINITY
  • Jina.AI
  • CockroachDB
  • Linode
  • .tech Domains
  • Twilio

Ask your Pod Leader for how to get started, coupon codes to gain access to their platforms!

Judging Criteria

  • Follow standard coding best practices
Throughout the Project, you'll work to make good use of Git and GitHub, such as using branches and Pull Requests to add new features, and Issues to track whatever is working on.
  • Learn new skills or concepts
Of course the Fellowship is all about learning, and the Pre-Fellowship is no exception! Pre-Fellows will be asked to set learning goals for themselves and work toward finishing the Pre-Fellowship having achieved one major milestone for themselves.
  • Contribute to their team or and project
If you want to go far, go together. Fellows work in teams on their assigned projects and will be expected to make regular, high-quality contributions.
  • Communicate clearly with their Pod Leader and team members
Fellows are asked to communicate clearly and often with their teammates and Pod Leader. This could be about something you're hoping to learn, or setting expectations for the work you can take on in a given week, or asking for help on a tricky bug.
  • Be punctual and professional in meetings
Lastly, they say showing up is sometimes half the battle! Fellows will be expected to attend all required meetings, be on time, and conduct themselves in a professional manner that abides by our Code of Conduct.
